Much of CQUniversity's research is carried out through our research centres. CQUniversity hosts the Institute for Sustainable Regional Development, the Centre for Environmental Management, the Centre for Railway Engineering, the Centre for Social Science Research and the Primary Industries Research Centre.
The University is also involved with community-based research centres including the Queensland Centre for Domestic and Family Violence Research, the Process Engineering and Light Metals (PELM) Centre and the Koala Research Centre of Central Queensland.
The Mackay campus hosts the Queensland Centre for Domestic & Family Violence Research. The Centre undertakes research and evaluation, and develops educational resources pertaining to domestic and family violence. Specific interests include Indigenous family violence, social policy responses to domestic and family violence, and the needs of rural and remote communities in responding to domestic and family violence. CQUniversity offers a range of higher degree programs, entry to which normally requires a Bachelor's degree with honours or equivalent academic and/or professional experience. Unlike coursework study, a research higher degree typically does not follow a structure of lectures, tutorials, assessment items and examinations. A research higher degree is a program of supervised research and study leading to the preparation of a thesis. The following research higher degree programs are offered at the Mackay campus:
