About Bundaberg

The city of Bundaberg, about midway between Rockhampton and Brisbane, marks the southern boundary of the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park and of the Central Queensland region. The city is about 90 minutes drive from Fraser Island, a World Heritage-listed national park. Bundaberg's population is about 45 000 within a district of about 120,000.

Bundaberg is favoured with the most moderate climate in Australia. The winters are mild and the heat of summer is tempered by cool sea breezes. The city is only 15 km from a pleasant coastal environment with safe sandy beaches, clear water warm enough for swimming year-round and snorkelling or SCUBA diving in coral ecosystems, directly from coastal rocks.

Known as the Gateway to the Great Barrier Reef, Bundaberg is close to a number of beachside resort towns and villages with cosmopolitan cafes and access to associated recreational opportunities. Nearby is Mon Repos, internationally renowned as the largest loggerhead sea turtle rookery on Australia's east coast. There are plenty of things to see and do around town visit the Bundaberg Region website to find out more.

The city is a popular departure point for the coral cays of the Great Barrier Reef having daily rail and bus services on the Brisbane to Cairns route, and daily flights from Brisbane international airport.
