About Brisbane

The city of Brisbane, the capital of Queensland, is part of the fastest growing region in Australia. Brisbane city has a population of nearly 900 000 in a metropolitan area of approximately 1.7 million. Founded from New South Wales in 1824, the city has long been the major metropolitan area in North Eastern Australia.

Brisbane is at the northern (warmer) edge of temperate Australia. It has a temperate climate throughout the year. The city is noted for major sports and leisure facilities, and for major cultural facilities, including the Queensland Cultural Centre, in the trendy South Bank area.

The city has a major international airport, with frequent service from around the globe. It is a major departure point for the Gold Coast, the largest beach resort area in Australia and for the more sedate Sunshine Coast, to the north.
