Nature of Learning & Teaching (OLTC20003)

Synopsis

Participants in this course will explore the nature of learning and teaching in tertiary education. The knowledge, skills and dispositions relevant to your role as an educator will be examined. Issues with respect to evolving ideas, policies and innovations in learning and teaching will be analysed. The course aims to explore sound educational practices and support participants through reflective practice to develop their philosophy of teaching.

Course Learning Outcomes 

On successful completion of this course, you will be able to:

  1. Examine your role as educator and investigate the knowledge, skills and dispositions required to facilitate desirable learning outcomes.
  2. Compare and contrast different theories and views on learning and teaching and relate these to your teaching practice.
  3. Examine contemporary educational issues in light of emerging ideas, policies and innovations and articulate the implications for your learning and teaching context.
  4. Critique and reflect on your teaching practice to develop a personal teaching philosophy.
