Supervisor Letter

Congratulations on appointing a new staff member!

As a Supervisor, here is some information you will need to know.

Whether your new staff member is new to the higher education sector or not, taking on a new role is always a challenge, and the People and Culture Directorate is here to offer you both support and guidance.

All new staff members employed by CQUniversity, are required to complete the online New Staff - Induction training module. In addition to providing general information about the University, the Induction program includes the compulsory Health & Safety Induction, and EO Online Induction and the Fire Evacuation Program which must be completed within the first 48 hours of starting with the University. Successful completion of these modules will be recorded in the new staff member's personnel records on ESSO. You will be responsible for ensuring that your staff members have completed these modules. This can be checked through accessing your Team Management area of ESSO (for more information please refer to the ESSO User Tips).

For academic staff, information on the compulsory Foundation training program is also available through the Online Induction program. The program is run twice yearly and more information on dates can be gained from the Educational Development Team (ed-dev@cqu.edu.au) in the Office of Learning and Teaching, or accessed via the webpage.

As a supervisor, you are responsible for going through the Supervisor Checklists with your new staff member. If you are new to your Supervisory role, there is additional information provided (via the Professional Development link below) to assist in understanding your role and responsibilities.

The online induction can be a useful source of information for all staff regardless of which stage you are at in your career here at CQUniversity. For example, each time you change location within the University, you will need to familiarise yourself with the building specific Fire Evacuation Program available through the Health & Safety Induction segment.

Please use our online resources and don't hesitate to contact one of People and Culture's helpful staff for further information.
