The academic governance processes of the University are established and actioned through Academic Board and its sub-committees.
Academic Board is the senior academic governance body within the University with respect to teaching, scholarship and research, established under the Central Queensland University Act (1998). Academic Board reports to the University Council on the activities of the Board. Academic Board is the primary forum in the University for the discussion and resolution of academic matters. Its membership includes wide representation from management, staff and students.
Academic Board is responsible for accrediting academic programs to be offered by the University, academic policies, the quality of teaching, scholarship and research training, and maintaining a leadership role in academic activities. The Board is supported in its responsibilities by its sub-committees.
The Executive Committee of Academic Board acts as an executive and agenda committee of the Board, considering urgent matters between Board meetings, monitoring Academic Board's Work Plan and considering agenda items and focus item topics for discussion by the Board.
The Education Committee of Academic Board is responsible for accrediting new courses to be offered by the University, providing advice to the Pro Vice-Chancellor (Learning and Teaching) and considering and recommending learning and teaching policies, coursework program proposals and coursework program review reports.
The Research Committee of Academic Board is responsible for providing advice to the Pro Vice-Chancellor (Research) on the principles to govern the disbursement of untied research funds, research priorities for the University, research infrastructure needs, developing and promoting quality research, and for considering and recommending research policies to enhance the quality, impact and quantity of research activity.
The Research Higher Degrees Committee is responsible for providing advice to the Pro Vice-Chancellor (Research) and Dean, Graduate Research, recommending the award of higher degrees by research, recommending research program proposals and research program review reports and considering policies and processes relevant to higher degree by research students and supervisors.
