Background

We work in teams all the time - work group teams, project teams, sporting teams, and so on. To be really effective in a team situation we need to work well together, and we also need to manage diversity and differences of opinion and approach. Good leadership within a team always makes a difference. It can turn organisations around and positively affect hundreds of lives. However, leadership is not easy to learn and even more difficult to consistently demonstrate. Leadership development often requires very successful professionals to learn and apply new skills while often letting go of old entrenched habits.

The Action Learning Program is design to develop leadership skills within a team environment, with real outcomes and achievements at the end of the program.

Audience

The workshop is designed for our emerging leaders – future leaders and current supervisors / team leaders – who are looking to improve their team leadership skill set, better understand their own communication styles, and present a tangible outcome at the end of the program.

Workshop Program

The program covers:

  • 6 days leadership skills development (3, 4, 28, 29 May and 12, 13 June)
  • Ongoing mentoring by internal Mentors
  • Project proposal for your team to work on between June and October
  • Check in session 31 August
  • Presenting your team’s report and findings 19 October

  • Delivering Exceptional Client Service
The program, run over approximately six months, includes several days of face-to-face classroom work as well as involvement in an Action Learning Project designed to improve performance within the University.

Cost

The cost of the Action Learning Program is $1,800 per person, (excl GST) and includes all program days outlined above.

The program will be charged to the participant’s nominated cost area regardless of actual attendance at individual sessions. If you are unable to make a session, please advise the Administration Officer (stafftrain@cqu.edu.au) to allow us to adjust catering.

Enrolment

Positions are limited and registration closes 30 March 2012. To register for this training program, please complete the Professional Development Registration Form. The form can also be found on the Staff Portal, under Documents, People and Culture (Professional Development Registration Form). Please return it to People and Culture, Building 2, CQUniversity Rockhampton.

Other Roles

We are also seeking potential program mentors, and potential project sponsors.

A one day mentor skills day is available for program mentors (14 June) to assist in preparing them for this role. Both mentors and sponsors need to be available throughout the program for their nominated project team, and for the final presentation on the 19 October.

If you are interested in taking on one of these roles, or have a potential project you would like to discuss, please contact the Professional Development Officer on stafftrain@cqu.edu.au or 4930 9148.
